Explanatory Remarks

Provision of $400,000 was made under Vate 29:3 but the contract for the work was awarded and work commenced only in February, 1949.

Provision of $160,000 was made under Vote 29: 4. To reduce maintenance costs the original scheme was modified with the result that the full provision was not required.

Construction and equipment of the Research Station delayed pending the

appointment of Director of Fisheries.

Total expenditure on scheme recoverable from C. D. & W. funds. Partly offset by Credit to Revenue. Balance to be recovered in 1949/50 Financial Year.
